Chapter 1: Twenty Minutes Before

At my wedding, my MIL demanded that I let her daughter walk down the aisle before me — I agreed, but under one condition.
When my future mother-in-law pulled me aside twenty minutes before the ceremony, I honestly thought she wanted to wish me luck.
Instead, she smiled.
"There's been one last change."
I laughed.
"What kind of change?"
"When those doors open... my daughter will make the bridal entrance before you."
For a second, I thought she was joking.
"... What?"
"That's the way it needs to happen."
I blinked.
"She's not the bride."
"I know."
"Then why would she get the bride's entrance?"
She didn't answer my question.
Instead, she simply said,
"It's important to our family."
I stared at her, waiting for the punchline.
It never came.
"The ceremony starts in twenty minutes."
She nodded.
"I know."
Then she added, almost casually,
"The wedding coordinator already has the new processional order."
"You WHAT?"
I hadn't approved anything.
Nobody had even asked me.
By then, my fiancé walked over.
"Kevin," I said. "Please tell me this isn't happening."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Can we just... not fight about this right now?"
I looked at him in disbelief.
"So you're okay with this?"
"I just don't want today to turn into a bigger scene."
A bigger scene?
His mother had changed my wedding ceremony behind my back.
My maid of honor stepped beside me.
"Don't let them do this."
At the other end of the room, my mother had already started walking toward us.
Several guests were quietly watching.
May you like
Even the wedding coordinator looked nervous.
Meanwhile, my future sister-in-law was already standing near the aisle, bouquet in hand, as if everything had been decided long before I arrived.
