Chapter 7: The Unveiling

"The doctor said whatever I paid him to say, Elise," I said softly.
The microphone clipped to my collar carried the quiet words across the entire boardroom, making them sound like stones dropping into a deep well.
Stephen stood up abruptly from his chair, his hands gripping the edge of the table. "Arthur, this is a closed executive session. You are medically retired. You don't have voting rights here anymore—your wife holds your proxy!"
"Ah, the proxy," I murmured, lifting my head. The weakness vanished from my eyes, replaced by a cold, razor-sharp focus that made Stephen instinctively take a step back. "Let's talk about the proxy, Stephen."
I raised my right hand and snapped my fingers twice.
The side door to the boardroom opened, and Graham Bell walked in, accompanied by two federal agents in dark suits holding federal identification badges.
Panic instantly seized the room. Several shareholders stood up, shouting over one another.
"What is the meaning of this?!" my uncle demanded, slamming his hand on the table. "Arthur, explain yourself!"
"Quiet, Uncle," I said, my voice cutting through the chaos like a whip.
I reached down, grabbed the gray blanket off my lap, and threw it to the floor.
I gripped the armrests of the wheelchair, planted my feet firmly on the polished wood floor, and stood up. I straightened my jacket, rolling my shoulders back. I stood at my full height, towering over the table, looking down at Elise and Stephen as the color completely vanished from their skin.
A collective gasp echoed through the executives. The man they believed was a crippled invalid, helpless and trapped in a chair, was standing right before them, entirely whole.
"My legs work," I announced into the quiet room. "The crash was real, but the paralysis was a choice. A choice I made to see exactly who in this room was loyal to Sterling Industries, and who was conspiring to murder me."
"Murder?!" Elise shrieked, jumping to her feet, her composure completely shattered. "He's insane! He's delusional from the medication! Look at him, he's making up stories!"
"Am I, Elise?" I asked calmly.
I gestured to Graham Bell. The attorney opened his briefcase, pulled out a thick stack of certified documents, and laid them before the federal agents.
"According to Section 12, Paragraph 4 of our corporate bylaws," Graham stated, his voice ringing out clearly, "when a spouse attempts to claim a medical proxy under false pretenses or via fraudulent medical documentation, the proxy is legally nullified. Furthermore, the act triggers an automatic reversion of all voting shares to the primary blind trust—of which I am the sole executor."
Elise grabbed the leather folder containing the document she had had me sign the night before, tearing the pages out in a frenzy. "This is a fake! He signed it! He gave me the power!"
"You didn't read the fine print, Elise," I smiled coldly. "The document you had me sign explicitly states that you acknowledge my condition as a permanent, legally binding disability report. By submitting that false medical affidavit to the board, you formally perjured yourself to seize corporate assets."
Stephen looked wildly around the room, realizing the trap had snapped shut. He turned to the federal agents. "This is a civil corporate dispute! You have no jurisdiction here!"

The lead federal agent stepped forward, pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from his belt.
"Stephen Sterling," the agent said, his voice flat and unyielding. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate embezzlement, and wire fraud. Vance Corporation shell accounts trace directly back to your offshore ledgers."
