THE LIQUIDATION ADJUDICATION / Chapter 1 / 15

Chapter 1: The Courtroom Metric

The courtroom was already heavy with suffocating tension when the boy suddenly pushed up from the gallery bench. His small body was shaking uncontrollably, his fingers twisting into the wool of his gray sweater, but his voice tore through the room anyway.

“Stop! It wasn’t her!”

Every single head turned in a sharp, unified sequence. At the center of the courtroom, behind the defense table, the young housemaid froze inside her black-and-white uniform. Tears were already tracking down her face, and she looked so thoroughly frightened it seemed like even the act of breathing physically hurt. The boy pointed straight toward her, his thin hand trembling violently against the light of the tall mahogany windows.

“I saw everything!” he cried, his voice breaking under the weight of the data. “She was protecting me!”

A massive wave of shock moved through the gallery like a physical tremor. People gasped loudly. Someone in the front row covered their mouth with a trembling hand. The maid’s whole face collapsed. She lifted both hands to her lips and sobbed, already begging him with her eyes not to keep going into the record.

“Please… don’t,” she whispered, her voice barely a breath.

But the truth had already started, and the system could no longer decline the transmission. An older man dressed in a dark, expensive suit rushed forward from the front row gallery bench and grabbed the boy’s arm hard, his leather shoes squealing against the parquet floorboards.

“Sit down. Now,” the man hissed, his jaw clenching.

The boy flinched from the force of the grip, but he fought him, twisting his torso against the constraint. “No!” he shouted, tears burning in his eyes. “She didn’t do it!”

The older man tightened his hold, trying to drag the boy's arm down, trying to force the moment back under control before it could compromise the ledger. “Enough.”

But the boy pulled free just enough to point his arm again, his gaze fixed on the bench. “You’re punishing the wrong person!”

The maid was crying openly now, her shoulders shaking where she stood behind the defense table. The entire courtroom stared between the child and the man trying to violently silence him. The boy looked at the maid one more time, and his voice dropped for a second, softer, almost breaking.

“You saved me.”

That single line permanently changed the tracking of the adjudication. The room went colder. A suffocating stillness spread across the benches. Even the older man’s face flickered with a sudden, visceral panic now. Then the boy turned toward the judge and shouted with everything he had left:

“The guilty one is in this room!”

May you like

The spectators recoiled in their seats. The maid stared at him in absolute horror. The older man lunged again to execute a physical extraction, but the boy twisted free, raised his arm, and pointed with wide, certain eyes across the room:

“It was—”
