THE RESTITUTION ADJUDICATION / Chapter 9 / 15

Chapter 9: The Confrontation at the Tarmac

The courtroom grew completely quiet as the judge carefully flipped through the contents of the red folder.

The high-definition forensic medical reports mapped every distinct mark Evan had left, complete with specific dates and unalterable surveillance timestamps. Below the emergency medical files lay the full, verified transaction sheets mapping the multi-million-dollar extraction ring he had run through my parent company arrays.

The judge closed the thick folder with a slow, heavy thud that echoed off the mahogany paneling like a block of ice. She didn't look at Evan’s attorney or his weeping mother. She locked her eyes straight onto Evan.

"The motion for temporary custody is permanently denied, counsel," the judge ruled, her voice flat, carrying an absolute clinical finality. "Furthermore, based on the forensic data logged by the petitioner, this court is issuing an immediate emergency protection parameter. Bailiff, secure the defendant."

Evan staggered backward against his leather table, his hands shaking in visceral, absolute terror as two armed court officers closed the loop around his wrists, unclipping the steel links from their utility belts. His attorney sat down slowly, his face an ugly shade of gray, his legal folders remaining shut.

I adjusted my son gently against my chest, turned my back on the front table without a single additional word, and walked down the central aisle toward the exit doors. Evan looked over his shoulder as they pulled him toward the holding cell, his voice cracking into a broken sob. "Ava... wait... it's a corporate misunderstanding... we're family..."

I didn't turn around. The doors swung shut behind me with a smooth, definitive click. The transaction was closed.
