Chapter 2: The Shared Vault

My name is Arjun Lin. I am thirty-five years old, and as Chief Financial Officer of Vanguard Capital—the largest private equity and risk mitigation firm in the region—my entire existence operates on absolute data verification and zero emotional margin.

When Maya finally spoke, she didn't reveal a sudden illness. She revealed a systematic, corporate fraud that had been engineered directly inside our marriage profile.

“I didn't have a natural miscarriage the second time, Arjun,” she whispered, her voice dropping into a flat, mechanical register. “Your mother, Eleanor, and your business partner, Jeffrey, had been systematically altering my medical records. They paid off the fertility clinic director to administer synthetic hormonal non-compliance blocks during my treatments. They needed to ensure I never produced an heir to your father's ancestral estate trust.”

I sat completely frozen, my fingers clenching around her hand until my knuckles turned white.

“Why?” I managed to ask, my voice dropping into a register of pure, unyielding frost.

“Because under your father’s blind trust bylaws, if you remained childless by your thirty-fifth birthday, forty percent of your Vanguard stock options automatically reallocated to Core Dynamics—the international logistics firm managed by Jeffrey and your mother,” Maya explained, pulling a compressed digital hardware drive from her hospital bag. “They targeted me because they knew your grief would drive you across an ocean, leaving the corporate vault entirely unmonitored.”

I let out a slow, cold breath that slightly fogged the polished edge of the drive. While I had been busy acting as a distant, mourning husband, my own blood had been running an extraction ring directly inside my home.

“Execute the Security Protocol, David,” I commanded, pulling out my encrypted mobile terminal and patch-routing my chief forensic assistant into the line. “Sever all personal asset paths between my venture options and the joint family accounts. Freeze Jeffrey's corporate credit lines, deactivate my mother's estate clearances, and initiate an immediate federal forensic audit of their Delaware shell node. I want the preservation order on their desks before the market opens tomorrow morning.”
