Chapter 9: The Confrontation at the Wing

The white, sterile corridors of the hospital trauma wing were silent at 2:00 PM on Friday afternoon. My mother and sister stood inside the central waiting lounge, their designer wraps immaculate, their expressions carrying the smooth, unwavering entitlement of women who believed their social registry protected them from municipal accountability.

The heavy glass doors burst open. Two state police detectives walked in, accompanied by four armed uniform officers. Behind them, my attorney, Eleanor Vance, walked down the corridor holding an official federal containment brief.

Evelyn stepped back against the reception desk, her face draining of all trace of color as the steel cuffs clicked loudly around her wrists before she could take a single defensive breath.

"The transaction loop is finalized, mother," I said, stepping into the lounge from the adjoining recovery room, my voice dropping into a cold, mechanical register. "Vanguard's compliance committee successfully verified the cryptographic tokens you cloned from my private study terminal. The state forensic logs have mapped every distinct entry point to our residential network during my absence."

Evelyn stared at me, her eyes wide with a combination of visceral terror and breathless, frantic panic as the officers led her toward the exit turnstiles. "Ethan... wait... it's a structural misunderstanding... the family trust can balance the deficit..."

"The balance sheet is permanently closed, Evelyn," I replied quietly. "Take her down."

The heavy doors clicked shut behind her shouting, leaving the clinical space in a pristine, cold layer of silence. The extraction was absolute.
