Chapter 10: The Evaluation

The court-ordered evaluator met with Meadow over three short sessions designed to minimize pressure. She did not require my daughter to remove the pink hat or to produce a full verbal account. The drawings already in the file, the pediatrician’s documentation, and Meadow’s observed withdrawal were sufficient to confirm a trauma response linked to the shaving and the blocked exit. When the evaluator asked whether Meadow felt safe returning to unsupervised time with her father if his mother was present, Meadow’s only answer was to pull the hat lower and grip the purple elephant until her knuckles whitened. The report noted the reaction without forcing further words.
