Chapter 8: Perimeter Expansion
Counsel filed the follow-on requests: a longer protective order, documentation preservation, and formal notice to relevant institutions that Abigail’s medical and personal information was restricted. Nicholas’s early attempt to frame the hospital visit as a marital misunderstanding was met with the photographic record and the written statement. The framing did not travel far.
Patricia tested the edge of the order once with a message routed through a mutual acquaintance. The acquaintance, after a single clarifying conversation with me, declined further involvement. Gregory remained silent in the channels that reached us. Silence was acceptable. Contact was not.
Abigail slept long hours. When she was awake she spoke in careful fragments—about the guest house, the confiscated phone, the specific threats against her reputation. I recorded nothing beyond what counsel required. The rest I simply received. My role was no longer deployment or command. It was the narrower, harder task of making certain the people who had marked her could not reach her again while the formal process did its work.
