Chapter 6: The Gala Night

Dominic called me six times that day.
I didn’t answer any of them.
At 6:40 p.m., he showed up at the house. He looked stressed — tie loosened, hair slightly messy, the way he always looked when something at work had gone wrong.
I opened the door but didn’t let him inside.
“Where’s Sophia?” he asked immediately.
“She’s at my brother’s house,” I said. “She’s safe.”
Dominic frowned.
“Safe from what? Vivienne, what the hell is going on? My accounts are frozen. Investors are pulling out. Chloe disappeared this morning. And now you’re not answering my calls—”
I looked at him.
The man I had been married to for eight years. The father of my child. The man who had smiled at another woman and another little boy while I raised our daughter alone most nights.
“You have another family,” I said quietly.
Dominic froze.
For several seconds, he didn’t say anything. Then he tried to reach for me.
“Vivienne, listen to me—”
I stepped back.
“Don’t touch me.”
He dropped his hand.
“It’s not what you think,” he said. “Elena… she was a mistake. A one-time thing that got complicated. The boy isn’t even—”
“Stop lying,” I cut him off. “I’ve seen the photos. I’ve seen the bank records. I know how long it’s been going on.”
Dominic’s face changed. The panic turned into something colder.
“So what now?” he asked. “You’re going to divorce me? Take half of everything? Is that what this is about?”
I looked at him for a long moment.
“No,” I said. “This isn’t about money.”
I stepped closer.
“You humiliated our daughter. You let your secretary laugh at her in a hotel lobby. You made her believe she wasn’t enough. That’s what this is about.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened.
“So you’re going to destroy me because of one mistake?”
I shook my head.
“No,” I said. “I’m going to destroy you because you chose to keep making that mistake for three years. And because you thought I would never find out.”
I started to close the door.
Dominic put his hand out to stop it.
“Vivienne,” he said, his voice low. “If you do this… if you go to war with me… you’re going to regret it.”
I looked him in the eyes.
“The only thing I regret,” I said, “is not seeing who you really were sooner.”
Then I closed the door.
That night, while Dominic was at the company gala trying to salvage what was left of his reputation, Victor made the next move.
Every major investor received a detailed file showing exactly how Dominic had been stealing from the company. The files were also sent to every major financial news outlet.
