Chapter 2: The Silent Strike

The silent strike began the moment I left the estate.
I sat in my car in the parking area and made three calls.
First, the bank: all joint accounts frozen.
Second, the credit cards: canceled.
Third, my attorney: the clause activated.
By the time Gavin and Valerie finished their celebration, the company they thought they controlled was no longer theirs.
I drove home to the penthouse we shared — the one I had bought with my own money three years earlier, though Gavin always introduced it as “our place.”
I packed a small bag.
I left the roses I had bought for him on the kitchen island with a note:
Happy Valentine’s Day.
Then I left.
I checked into a quiet hotel under my maiden name.
I turned off my phone and ordered room service.
For the first time in six years, I did not wait for Gavin to come home.
I did not wonder why he was late.
I did not make excuses for him.
I simply sat on the bed and breathed.
The silent strike was not loud.
It was clean.
May you like
It was final.
And it was only the beginning.
