Chapter 10: Range of Motion

Physical therapy began while the grafts were still teaching my skin how to move again.
The therapist measured degrees with the same neutrality Lena used for wound checks. I met the numbers without commentary. Progress was slow, documented, and non-negotiable if I intended to leave the hospital under my own power rather than as a continuing exhibit in someone else’s narrative.

Marcus brought word that both criminal cases had cleared preliminary hearings. Vivian’s counsel floated the first serious plea discussion. Daniel’s remained more aggressive on paper and less convincing against the footage and the false-statement timeline. The civil accounting produced a second tranche of recoverable transfers. Marcus filed the appropriate motions to secure them before any further dissipation could be attempted.
I authorized nothing that required my presence in the same room as either of them. Remote deposition protocols were already being drafted for the civil track. My only obligation was to heal on the medical schedule and remain consistent on the legal one.
