Marcus returned two days later with confirmation that the bank vault originals had been formally inventoried under the investigation.

The irrevocable trust had never left my sole control. The pages Daniel watched me sign six months earlier were the substituted set—complete enough to satisfy a man who only checked for his own name and the appearance of transfer. The real instruments remained where my father had designed them to remain: unreachable by a husband who preferred control to due diligence.

When Daniel’s counsel received the first formal notice that no ownership interest had ever passed, the tone of their communications shifted from injury to urgency. Vivian’s counsel attempted to frame the kitchen incident as a tragic accident amplified by marital stress. The footage made that framing difficult to sustain in writing.

Lena adjusted the dressing schedule and told me the grafting decisions would come after the full depth declared itself. I listened, nodded, and kept my focus on the only timeline I could still influence: the legal one.
