Chapter 7: Pressure and Counter-Pressure
The anonymous report claiming Grace was attempting to flee with a child who was not hers was only the first coordinated move.
Within days two additional complaints surfaced through different channels—one alleging financial exploitation of an elderly relative, another suggesting Grace had a history of unstable behavior that made her unfit for any caregiving role. Each claim was timed to generate official attention before the protective filings could fully settle. My attorney intercepted and documented all three, submitting in response the physician’s reports on the hockey-stick injury, the kitchen security footage, Grace’s consistent account of the five-year silence, and the preliminary evidence of coordinated communication between my father and Victoria’s father.
The pattern was clear. The same interests that had required Grace’s disappearance years earlier were now attempting to reframe her as the threat. Victoria’s family office remained silent in public while the complaints multiplied in private. I authorized my attorney to treat every new allegation as potential evidence of ongoing conspiracy rather than isolated misunderstanding.

Grace’s shoulder began to stabilize under treatment. Lily remained close to her, speaking more freely inside the secure wing but still scanning doorways whenever a new adult entered. I kept the visitor list to the absolute minimum: the physician, the attorney, the head of security, and one caregiver Grace had approved. No member of Victoria’s family, and no one who had reported primarily to my father in the old structure, was granted entry or information.
I began the systematic review of every succession document, trust instrument, and corporate governance clause that had been prepared under the assumption of a marriage to Victoria. Several provisions transferred significant voting control and asset authority upon the wedding date. Those provisions were now under formal challenge. The engagement itself had already been terminated; the legal machinery that had been built around it was next.
