Chapter 12: Celeste’s Wall

Celeste’s attempt to segregate her personal holdings came under direct pressure within days of the creditors’ filing.
Two of the entities she had moved to isolate showed downstream traces to the early capital flows. Her counsel shifted from confident distance to a more defensive posture, arguing lack of operational knowledge and reliance on Adrian’s representations. The arguments were not frivolous. They were also not sufficient to remove her from the wider tracing effort.
Vivian updated me on a Thursday evening.
“She’s no longer trying to save the company,” she said. “She’s trying to save a perimeter around herself. Whether that perimeter holds will depend on how far the forensic reconstruction reaches into the household-level transfers.”
“And Adrian?”
“His remaining leverage is almost entirely procedural. The substantive ground is gone.”

Outside, the city moved through an ordinary evening. Inside the apartment, the case continued to narrow around the people who had once controlled every corridor of my life.
