Chapter 10: Recovery Lines
The forensic work produced the first usable recovery orders by the second month.
Claire secured freezes on the destination accounts that still held identifiable portions of the transferred funds. Several smaller channels had already been spent or layered; the larger ones remained reachable. I reviewed the summaries, authorized the next filings, and otherwise stayed out of the daily exchange between attorneys. Brandon’s counsel shifted from denial to negotiation once the pattern of transfers was entered into the record. Negotiation without full restitution was declined.
My mother and I moved from the short-term rental into a longer lease under my name alone. Margaret began to sleep through the night. I returned to a fuller work schedule. The protective order remained active and unviolated. Brandon’s silence on personal channels continued; any communication arrived only through formal counsel and was answered the same way.
