Chapter 4: Documentation
We went to the clinic first.
Claire insisted on a formal examination for my mother before anything else. The doctor documented the marks on Margaret’s face, noted the visible distress, and recorded her account of the two strikes and the accusation that followed. I sat in the room and answered only what was asked. The report was generated the same morning and forwarded to Claire’s office.
Afterward we filed the initial complaint. Brandon’s texts—demanding my mother leave, calling her a thief, issuing the ultimatum about the marriage—were preserved as part of the sequence. Claire added the joint-account screenshots and the transaction history I had already downloaded. She told me to change every password I still controlled and to request formal statements from the bank covering the previous twelve months.
