Chapter 8: The Record Tightens

By the end of the first month the temporary structure had hardened.

The protective order was extended. Dissolution proceedings advanced without concession on residence, access, or shared authority. Vivienne’s remaining personal effects were returned through counsel under documented inventory. Nothing further from Elara’s belongings was found among them. The single charm remained the only confirmed removal, and its presence in the nursery on the night of the incident continued to establish prior unauthorized entry.

Police inquiries proceeded in parallel. Statements from security, the physician, and the household staff who had witnessed the removal of Vivienne from the bathroom entered the file. The flooded room, the empty crib, and the broken seal on the study box were photographed and logged. Vivienne’s explanation of a desperate bid for attention did not address the organized theft of a private memorial item or the deliberate placement of a four-month-old in a running bathtub. The inquiry remained open.

Leo’s condition continued to stabilize. Follow-up examinations confirmed physical recovery and gradual reduction in residual distress. I maintained a restricted visitor list: the physician, the attorney, the head of security, and no one else. The nursery was fully reset—furniture replaced, monitors upgraded, access limited to authorized caregivers under my direct oversight. The bathroom that had held the rising water was closed and scheduled for complete renovation. No residual trace of that night would remain in the physical space.

Vivienne’s attempts to reopen communication through mutual contacts were documented and closed. Each message followed a similar pattern: minimization of the bathtub, emphasis on years of marriage, and a request for private resolution. My attorney issued a standing response. All contact would occur through formal channels. Any approach to the estate, to Leo, or to me would be treated as a violation. The perimeter did not flex.
