Chapter 13: The Woman I Became

People often asked me how I was doing after everything that happened.
I gave them simple answers.
“I’m okay.”
“I’m moving forward.”
“I’m focusing on myself.”
But the truth was more complicated.
There were still nights when I lay awake and thought about the years I had spent trying to be enough for Ethan. I thought about all the times I had minimized my own success so he wouldn’t feel insecure. I thought about how easily I had let him into my financial life because I believed marriage meant sharing everything.
I had been wrong.
Marriage wasn’t about giving someone access to everything you built. It was about choosing someone who respected what you built — even when it was bigger than what they had.
I had chosen wrong once.
I wouldn’t do it again.
Over time, I started to feel like myself again. Not the version of me that had tried to be the perfect wife, but the version that had built a company from nothing. The version that had fought for what was hers without apology.
I started going out more. I reconnected with old friends. I even began dating again — slowly, carefully, and only with people who knew exactly who I was and what I had been through.

For the first time in years, I didn’t feel like I had to shrink myself to make someone else comfortable.
And that feeling was more valuable than any house could ever be.
