Chapter 12: The Truth About the Family

The full truth about the family came out during the trial.

Victoria sat in the defendant’s chair, still composed, still wearing her pearls. But the mask was cracking.

Elena testified.

She told the court about the years of psychological abuse, the constant belittling, the control. She told them about the day she found the vial in her mother’s study. She told them about the DNA test Victoria had run on Leo and the conclusion that he was “not pure.”

The courtroom was silent.

Victoria’s lawyer tried to paint her as a concerned grandmother protecting the family legacy.

The prosecutor asked one question: “Did you mix rat poison into your grandson’s milk?”

Victoria’s answer was cold. “I did what was necessary.”

The jury took less than two hours to convict her on all charges.

The judge sentenced her to life in prison.

As Victoria was led away, she looked at Elena one last time.

“I thought I was protecting the family,” she whispered.

Elena held Leo tighter.

“You destroyed it.”

The truth about the family was out.

It was ugly.

It was broken.

But it was finally over.
