Chapter 13: The Healing

The healing began slowly.

Elena sold the big house and moved into a smaller, brighter home with a garden for Leo. She started therapy twice a week. She learned to sleep without checking the locks every hour. She learned to let people help her without waiting for the betrayal.

Leo grew stronger. He started crawling. He started laughing. He started saying “Mama” with a big smile.

Marcus visited every other weekend. He was trying. He was in therapy too. He was learning how to be a father without his mother’s shadow.

One afternoon, Elena sat in the garden watching Leo play with a toy truck. The sun was warm. The air was quiet.

She realized she was no longer waiting for the next blow.

She was living.

The healing was not loud.

It was quiet mornings with her son.

It was nights without nightmares.

It was the slow realization that she was no longer the daughter of a monster.

She was a mother.

And she was enough.
