Chapter 9: The Man Who Tried to Rewrite History
Mark’s lawyer sent a long letter trying to paint me as unstable and vindictive.
They claimed I had “overreacted” to a family trip. They said I was using the divorce to punish Mark for wanting to spend time with his daughter. They even suggested that I had been emotionally distant for years and that Mark had been “suffering in silence.”
Priya showed me the letter and raised an eyebrow.
“They’re getting desperate,” she said.
I read through it calmly.
Then I looked at her.
“Send them the recording.”
Priya smiled.
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
We had the full recording of Mark telling Rosa to “get rid of that baby” because it would hurt his career. We also had messages where he had dismissed my work and belittled my feelings over the years.
I wasn’t interested in destroying Mark publicly.
But I was no longer willing to let him rewrite the story to make himself look like the victim.
Two days later, his lawyer’s tone changed completely.
They stopped pushing for spousal support. They stopped trying to claim the house. They even offered to settle quickly and quietly.
I declined the quick settlement.
