Formal separation proceedings advanced on the strength of the existing record.
The assault documentation, the preserved statements, and the ownership schedules removed most of the usual grounds for delay or narrative revision. Daniel’s counsel explored arguments of shared marital interest and disproportionate response. Evelyn answered with the pre-existing corporate instruments, the marital-protection clauses activated the morning of the slap, and the contemporaneous recording of the hierarchy the family had attempted to enforce. The arguments did not travel far.
Margaret and Vanessa remained outside any standing in the formal process. Their earlier assumptions of domestic authority had no residual legal weight. Attempts to insert family-unity language into communications were noted and set aside. The process concerned the marriage, the assault, and the clarification of assets that had never been Daniel’s to direct. It did not concern the restoration of a household order that had begun with a raised hand and a command to know one’s place.

I authorized the necessary filings and otherwise left the sequence to counsel. Emotional engagement with Daniel’s preferred timeline was irrelevant. The timeline was now institutional. Freezes held. Protective restrictions held. The residence remained under exclusive use pending final orders. Cole Hospitality continued under the holding structure without his discretionary signature.
Evelyn reported that early settlement proposals from the other side still attached conditions—quiet mutual language, limited restoration of personal access to certain accounts, a narrowing of the public record of the assault. Each proposal was declined. Conditions that required softening of the second-morning facts were not available. The facts remained the fixed reference.
