Chapter 3: The Boardroom Chaos

The boardroom chaos began at 9 a.m. the next morning.
I walked into the Apex Global boardroom wearing a simple black suit and the same coat I had worn the day before.
The directors were already seated, expecting the usual quarterly update.
Valerie sat at the head of the table, smiling confidently.
Gavin sat beside her.
I stood at the door for a second, letting them see me.
Valerie’s smile faltered.
Gavin turned pale.
I walked to the head of the table and placed the ownership documents in front of Valerie.
“Effective immediately,” I said, “I am exercising my right as majority shareholder to assume control.”
The room exploded.
Voices overlapped.
Questions.
Accusations.
One director laughed as if it were a joke.
Valerie stood up.
“This is ridiculous. Gavin and I are engaged. This company is ours.”
I looked at her calmly.
“Eighty-three percent of the voting shares are mine. The company was never yours.”
Gavin tried to speak.
“Maeve, we can talk about this privately.”
I looked at him.
“You chose public yesterday. So will I.”
I turned to the board.
“Any director who wishes to stay under new leadership may do so. Those who prefer to leave will be compensated fairly. But the company will no longer operate under the previous management.”
The chaos continued.

But the power had already shifted.
The boardroom that had once belonged to them now belonged to me.
