Chapter 6: The Legal Battle
The legal battle began the next morning.
Gavin and Valerie filed an emergency motion claiming I had forged documents, exerted undue influence, and stolen control of the company. They asked the court to freeze all Apex Global assets and restore Gavin as acting CEO.
My legal team responded within hours with the original purchase records, my father’s patent transfer documents, and the ownership appendix Gavin had never bothered to read.
The judge, a no-nonsense woman in her sixties, looked at the evidence and set an expedited hearing.
In the hallway outside the courtroom, Gavin tried one last time.
“Maeve, this is insane. We can still fix this. A quiet settlement. You keep some shares. I keep the company. No one has to be embarrassed.”
I looked at him for a long moment.
“You embarrassed me in front of the entire company while I stood there with flowers and tickets for a trip you never wanted to take with me,” I said. “The only thing left to be embarrassed about is how long I stayed.”
The hearing was short.
My team presented the purchase records, the ownership appendix, and financial reports showing Apex Global had been failing until I bought it.
Gavin’s team tried to paint me as an opportunistic wife who had manipulated documents.
The judge ruled in my favor on every major point.
The 83% share withdrawal was legal.
The company was mine.
Gavin left the courthouse with Valerie, both of them silent.
