Chapter 7: The Other Woman

Jessica moved out of the house the week after the court order.

I saw her once at the grocery store, pushing a cart with a defeated expression. She avoided my eyes. I did not approach her. Whatever role she had played in my husband’s betrayal, she had already lost the life she thought she was gaining.

Russell came to the house once under the supervised visitation schedule. Felix stood behind my legs and would not go to him. Russell tried to smile, tried to act like the father in the photographs he had sent me, but the performance was hollow. Felix asked to go back inside after five minutes.

After the visit, Russell sent me a message through his attorney asking for “one honest conversation.” I declined.

The truth was already honest enough.

He had taken five years of my life and given it to another woman in the house I had paid for. There was nothing left to discuss.
