Chapter 12: The Audio That Ended Him

Six months after the verdict, Richard Hale accepted a plea deal and turned over the final piece of evidence: a second recording, longer than the first, made the night before the murders.
In it, Daniel’s voice was calm, almost bored.
“Once the detectors are offline, it will look like an accident. She’ll be the one who left them. The insurance pays out. The shares transfer. We take the company clean.”
Vanessa asked, “What if she comes back early?”
Daniel answered, “Then we’ll handle her the same way.”
That recording was played at Richard’s sentencing. It was played again on every major network. It was played until even people who had once defended Daniel fell silent.
