Two years after his release, Gavin stood in the backyard watching Chloe ride her bike without training wheels for the first time.
She wobbled at first, then found her balance and laughed with pure joy as she rode across the grass.
His mother sat on the porch steps, smiling at the sight.
Gavin thought about the man he had been in the cell—the man who had almost given up more times than he could count.
That man was gone.
In his place was a father who had been given a second chance and who refused to waste it.
Chloe rode back to him and jumped off the bike into his arms.
