Chapter 10: Quiet Room

That night I sat in the rocking chair between the two hospital beds.
Lucas was finally sleeping peacefully, color returning to his cheeks. Emma watched him with tears in her eyes.
“I was so scared you wouldn’t believe me,” she whispered.
I reached over and took her hand. “I saw it. All of it. I just couldn’t get here fast enough.”

We stayed like that for a long time. No words. Just the three of us breathing in the same room for the first time.
