Chapter 6: Flashback – The Wedding
Two years earlier, at our wedding, Diane had pulled me aside.
“Emma’s sweet, but she’s not strong like us. She’ll need guidance.”
I thought she meant help with the house or future kids.

After Lucas was born, the “guidance” became control. Diane decided how he should be fed, when he should sleep, what Emma was allowed to do. Rachel backed her up. When Emma pushed back, they punished her.
And while I was 8,000 miles away holding a rifle, they made sure she had no one to turn to.
