Chapter 11: Court
The hearing was fast.
Diane and Rachel sat on one side with their public defender. Emma and I sat on the other with my lawyer and the CPS caseworker.
The judge watched thirty seconds of one video—Diane slapping Emma so hard her head snapped back—then stopped it.
“Full protective order granted. No contact with the minor child or the mother. Temporary sole custody to the father with the mother having liberal visitation once medically cleared. Criminal charges will proceed.”

I felt nothing but cold satisfaction.
