Chapter 14: The Quiet

Back in Austin, life slowly returned to normal.

The children went back to school after the holidays. Kesha went back to running her company. The only difference was that now, Marcus texted her occasionally — asking how the children were doing, never pushing too hard.

Kesha kept her responses short and polite.

She wasn’t ready to trust him yet.

But she was willing to see if he would actually follow through on his words.

One quiet evening, after the children had gone to bed, Kesha sat alone in her living room with a glass of wine. She looked at the framed photos on the wall — pictures of her and the quadruplets over the years.

She thought about how far she had come.

Eight years ago, she had been pregnant, alone, and terrified.

Now, she was successful, independent, and raising four incredible children who were loved beyond measure.

She had built everything from nothing.

And she had done it without Marcus.

A small smile appeared on her face.

She didn’t need him to complete her life.

But if he wanted to be part of the children’s lives, she was willing to give him the chance to prove himself — slowly and carefully.

For now, that was enough.
