Chapter 10: The Confrontation

The confrontation happened at Thomas’s grave.
I stood there with the letters in my hand and spoke to the man buried beneath the stone.
“You waited fifty years to hurt me,” I said. “You married me knowing you would die. You left me with your debts and your hate.”
The wind blew across the cemetery.
I placed the letters on the grave.
“But I am still here,” I said. “I am still standing. And I will not let you win from the grave.”
I turned and walked away.
Behind me, the letters scattered in the wind.
