Chapter 15: The Trap He Set
The trap Thomas had set for me did not work.
The court ruled in my favor on the major claims. The debts were reduced. The lawsuits were dismissed. The will was contested successfully on grounds of fraud.
I did not get everything.
But I got enough.
I stood in my small house with the final court papers in my hand and looked at the photo of Thomas I had kept from the hospital.
“You tried to break me,” I whispered. “But I survived.”
I burned the photo in the sink.
The trap he had set had failed.
I was still standing.
