Chapter 9: Julian’s Desperation

When the initial shock wore off, Julian shifted from arrogance to desperation.
He followed Claire into the hallway as she calmly checked her phone.
“Claire, listen to me,” he said, his voice lower now, almost urgent. “I made a mistake. A terrible one. But we built a life together. You can’t just end it like this over one bad morning.”
She turned to face him.
“One bad morning?” she repeated. “You brought your mistress into my home. You had your parents pack my belongings. You told me my job was done. That was not a moment of weakness. That was a plan.”
Julian’s jaw tightened.
“I was under pressure. The debt was crushing me. I thought once it was gone, I could finally breathe and start over.”
“And starting over required humiliating me?”
He had no answer.
Claire studied him without emotion.
“You don’t love me,” she said simply. “You loved what I could provide. The moment you believed you no longer needed it, you discarded me. That is all this was.”
Julian stepped closer.
“I’ll do anything. I’ll sign whatever you want. Just don’t take the house. Don’t leave me with nothing.”
Claire’s expression remained unchanged.
“You already left yourself with nothing the moment you chose Elena and a clean exit over the woman who paid your debt.”
She moved past him toward the kitchen.

“You should finish packing.”
For the first time since the confrontation began, Julian looked completely defeated.
