Chapter 15: The New Owner

Evelyn stood in the main hall of Voss Meridian Headquarters on the anniversary of the day she signed the divorce papers.

The building was quiet after hours. The lights were low. The city glittered beyond the glass like a promise she had finally kept to herself.

She looked at the portrait of August Voss beside her own.

She touched the ring she had taken back from Grant’s drawer.

She looked at the reflection of the woman she had become.

Not the wife they had discarded.

Not the librarian they had diminished.

The owner.

The heir.

The woman who had signed the papers not because she was broken, but because she was already free.

She touched the window glass and whispered the words she had never said in the Harper house.

“I was always enough.”

The city lights answered with steady glow.

Evelyn smiled.

Then she turned off the lights and walked out of the hall, the new owner of an empire she had earned not by birth, but by survival.

And in the quiet after her footsteps faded, the building stood as proof that sometimes the person they throw away is the one who was always meant to own it all.
