Chapter 10: The Truth About the Theft
Finnley spent the next week digging deeper into the documents from the storage unit.
One night, while going through the bank records again, he noticed something important.
Many of the fake invoices and suspicious transfers were not done by Reagan. They were done by Carter.
There were messages between Carter and some of the company’s suppliers, as well as several large withdrawals made under Carter’s authorization. It became clear that Carter had been the main person behind the theft, while Reagan helped cover it up and spent the money.
Finnley took the evidence to Leonard the next day.
“This changes things,” Leonard said after reviewing the documents. “We can prove that Carter was the one who stole the money and framed you. Reagan was involved, but Carter was the mastermind.”
Finnley felt a cold anger rising in his chest.
All these years, he had thought Reagan was the main enemy. But it turned out Carter had been the one who destroyed his life.
“He let me go to prison for something he did,” Finnley said quietly.
Leonard nodded.
“And now we have the proof to clear your name and make him pay.”
Finnley looked at the documents spread across the table.
