Chapter 8: The Hidden Will

The next morning, Finnley met with Leonard Hale again.
This time, he brought all the documents from the storage unit. The old lawyer spent nearly two hours going through everything carefully.
When he finally looked up, his expression was serious.
“This will is valid,” he said. “It was signed and notarized properly. Reagan and Carter have no legal ground to ignore it.”
Finnley nodded.
“What happens now?”
“We file it with the probate court,” Leonard explained. “Once it’s accepted, the current will they used after your father’s death will be invalidated. They will have to return the house and any assets they took.”
Finnley was quiet for a moment.
“What about the theft? The money they stole from the company?”
Leonard leaned back in his chair.
“That’s more complicated. We can file a civil lawsuit to recover the stolen funds. But if you want to press criminal charges, we’ll need stronger evidence linking them directly to the theft.”
Finnley thought about the documents in the storage unit.
“I have bank records and fake invoices,” he said. “It should be enough.”
Leonard nodded.
“Then we’ll start with the will first. Once that’s settled, we can go after the stolen money.”
Finnley stood up.
“I want to move fast,” he said. “I don’t want to give them time to hide anything else.”

Leonard looked at him with a hint of approval.
“You’re more like your father than I thought.”
