Chapter 4: The First Move
Finnley spent the entire night inside Storage Unit 108.
He didn’t sleep. He read every document, every bank statement, and every note his father had left behind. By morning, he had a clearer picture of what had happened.
Carter had been stealing from the company for years through fake invoices and shell accounts. Reagan had helped cover it up. When Camden started asking questions, they needed a way to silence him and remove Finnley from the picture at the same time.
Framing Finnley for the theft had been the perfect solution.
Finnley took some cash from the duffel bag and left the storage unit before sunrise. He checked into a cheap motel on the edge of town under a false name and bought a cheap prepaid phone.
His first move was simple.
He needed a lawyer — someone who wasn’t afraid of Reagan and Carter.
He remembered the name of the lawyer who had represented his father years ago: Mr. Leonard Hale. The man was retired now, but Finnley hoped he would still remember Camden Dennis.
He called the number he found online.
When Leonard Hale answered, Finnley simply said:
“My name is Finnley Dennis. My father was Camden Dennis. I think I need your help.”

Then the old lawyer said quietly, “I was wondering when you would call.”
