Chapter 12: The Reckoning

The final confrontation happened at Leonard Hale’s office.
Reagan and Carter arrived with their lawyer. They looked confident at first, but that confidence disappeared the moment Leonard placed the new will and the evidence of theft on the table.
Finnley sat across from them, calm and silent.
Reagan was the first to speak.
“This is ridiculous,” she said. “That will is fake. Camden wasn’t thinking clearly when he signed it.”
Leonard pushed another document forward.
“This is the toxicology report from your husband’s medical file. There are substances in his system that shouldn’t have been there. Would you like to explain that?”
Reagan’s face turned pale.
Carter slammed his hand on the table.
“This is blackmail!”
“No,” Finnley said quietly. “This is justice.”
He looked directly at Reagan.
“You lied about my father’s death. You stole from his company. You framed me and sent me to prison. And you took the house that should have been mine.”
He turned to Carter.
“And you… you were the one who actually stole the money. I have the proof.”
Carter’s face twisted with anger, but he didn’t speak.
Leonard continued in a calm, professional tone.
“We are prepared to take this to court. However, if you agree to return the house and the stolen funds, Finnley is willing to settle without pressing criminal charges for fraud and theft.”
Reagan looked at her son. For the first time, she seemed uncertain.
Carter clenched his jaw.
After a long silence, Reagan finally spoke.
“…What do you want?”

Finnley looked at her without any emotion.
“Everything my father left me. And I want both of you out of my house by the end of the week.”
