Chapter 15: The Bridal Lounge Footage

A year after the wedding, Richard returned to the lake house alone.
The property was quiet. The water was still. The rooms no longer carried the weight of forced celebrations or carefully staged smiles.
He walked through the house slowly, stopping at the large windows that overlooked the lake.
In his pocket was a small USB drive containing the original bridal lounge footage. He had kept it all this time — not as a weapon, but as a reminder.
A reminder of what happens when trust is given blindly.
A reminder of how easily love can be performed.
A reminder that the most dangerous betrayals often come wearing familiar faces.
Richard took the USB drive out and held it for a moment.
Then he walked to the edge of the dock, looked out over the water, and let it fall from his hand.
It disappeared beneath the surface with barely a sound.
He stood there for a long time afterward, listening to the quiet.
The Sterling name still carried weight in the city. His company still operated. His wealth remained intact.
But the family that name had once represented was gone.
In its place was something colder, clearer, and far more honest.
Richard turned away from the water and walked back toward the house.
He did not know what the next chapter of his life would look like.
May you like
He only knew that it would no longer be built on a lie.
And for the first time in a long time, that was enough.
