Chapter 12: Closed Sequence

By the sixth month the sequence that had begun at 3:07 a.m. had reached a settled institutional stage.
The assault case moved forward on the unaltered strength of the recording and the medical file. The financial case carried the mapped transfers, the forged authorization, the quiet freeze, the failed login attempts, and the final morning effort to remove physical evidence. Recovery orders progressed. Company control rested under my authority with the temporary supervision phased down as the forensic work cleared. The house remained mine without further claim from Derek or Marlene.
Elena prepared the residual steps with the same precision she had applied from the hospital room onward. No dramatic confrontations remained. The work had shifted into the ordinary machinery of court schedules, asset recovery, and formal findings. Derek and Marlene faced the outcomes their own documented actions had produced. Their early attempts to reframe the matter as grief-induced misunderstanding or temporary domestic conflict had been closed by the evidence they themselves had generated on camera.
I did not attend every hearing. The record did not require my continuous presence once the foundational statements and exhibits were in place. I attended when necessary and otherwise continued the work of restoring the operational life my father had left. The two years of controlled extraction were treated as a finished period, fully documented, and no longer able to dictate the terms of the present.
The smoke-detector camera had completed its function. The encrypted uploads, the indexed ledgers, and the decision to let them steal one more thing before the arrests had converted their certainty into permanent record. They had believed the house was theirs, the company answered to them, and grief had made me permanent background.

The sequence had answered each belief.
The answers remained in force.
