Chapter 5: The First Day Alone

My first day alone at the coast was quiet and perfect.

I woke up to the sound of waves.

I had breakfast on the balcony — coffee, toast, and a book.

No one asked me for anything.

No one needed me to fix anything.

No one expected me to smile when I was tired.

I walked on the beach for hours.

I collected shells.

I sat on a bench and watched the ocean.

I felt the wind on my face and realized how long it had been since I had done something just for me.

In the afternoon, I had a simple lunch at a small café.

The waitress smiled at me and said, “You look peaceful.”

I smiled back.

“I am.”

That night, I sat in bed with the window open and listened to the waves.

I thought about the house I had left behind.

I thought about the note I had left.

I thought about the years I had given without being asked if I wanted to.

And for the first time in a long time, I felt light.

The first day alone was not lonely.

May you like

It was freedom.

And I was finally ready to claim it.
