Chapter 8: The Beach

The beach was quiet in the morning.

I walked for hours with my shoes in my hand, the cold sand between my toes.

I bought a book at a small shop and read it on a bench with the sun on my face.

I had lunch at a café by the water and smiled at the waitress when she said I looked peaceful.

I was.

For the first time in years, there was no schedule.

No dinner to cook.

No grandchildren to entertain.

No one expecting me to be the strong, reliable one.

I sat on the beach and watched the waves.

I breathed in the salt air.

I felt the wind on my face and realized how long it had been since I had done something just for me.

The beach was not loud.

It was gentle.

May you like

It was healing.

And it was mine.
