Chapter 9: Luke’s Strike

Luke chose his moment carefully.
After the first confrontation, when the ballroom was already unsettled and attention had locked onto the three adults at its center, he stepped forward and addressed not his father, but the small cluster of board members standing within earshot.
“Before the evening continues,” Luke said clearly, “there is something the leadership of Grand Horizon should know.”
Christopher turned sharply.
“Luke. Enough.”
Luke did not raise his voice.
“My mother was drugged in our home tonight. The woman standing beside my father is wearing property taken from her while she was unconscious. This is not a misunderstanding. It is a pattern.”
He took out his phone and held it so that Harrington and two other senior figures could see the screen.
On it was a short sequence of transferred files: timestamps, internal access logs, and a preliminary note from Vivian’s lawyer confirming that medical testing and asset tracing were already underway.
“My mother has already engaged counsel,” Luke continued. “So have I, as a shareholder through the family trust. Effective immediately, we are requesting an internal review of Brenda Vance’s access, authority, and financial activity within the company.”
The effect was immediate.
In a room built on reputation and control, the language of legal review and shareholder action moved faster than gossip ever could.
Brenda’s face went white.
Christopher grabbed Luke’s arm.
“You will stop this right now.”
Luke looked down at his father’s hand, then back up at his face.
“No,” he said. “Tonight you pay for everything.”

The words were quiet.
They carried anyway.
