Chapter 10: The Aftermath

The aftermath was quiet but heavy.

I moved Grandma Evelyn in with me the same week.

She needed care, and I needed to know she was safe.

We spent the days talking about the past, the years she had spent trying to protect me from my parents’ greed.

She told me stories about my childhood, about the times she had tried to warn me about their behavior.

I listened and apologized for not seeing it sooner.

The aftermath was not easy.

There were court dates.

There were phone calls from relatives who suddenly wanted to “help.”

There were nights when Grandma cried because she had lost her children to greed.

But there were also good days.

Days when we sat in the garden and laughed at old memories.

Days when Leo, my son, played with her and made her smile.

The aftermath was healing.

It was slow.

May you like

It was real.

And it was ours.
