Chapter 15: The Monster Who Raised Her

I stood in the garden of my new home with Leo in my arms.

The sun was warm. Flowers I had planted were blooming. Leo reached for a butterfly and laughed.

I thought about the woman who had raised me — the monster in pearls who had tried to steal from Grandma and lie to me for years.

I thought about the years of silence and pain.

I thought about the day my father saw the video and came for me.

And I realized something important.

The monster had raised me.

But I had chosen not to become one.

I kissed Leo’s forehead.

“We’re free,” I whispered.

The monster who had raised me was in prison.

The daughter she had tried to break was standing in the sun with her son.

And for the first time in my life, I felt truly free.

The end.
