Chapter 5: The Return

I went back to the city where everything had happened.
I didn’t go to Ryan or Linda directly. Instead, I went straight to the police station and asked to speak with a detective.
I showed them everything.
The recording of Ryan and Linda talking about pushing me.
The hospital records.
The messages where they pressured me to have an abortion.
The evidence of them spending the money they received after my “death.”
The detective was shocked.
“You’re supposed to be dead,” he said.
“I know,” I replied calmly. “That’s what they wanted everyone to believe.”
I gave them my real name and explained everything that had happened three years ago.
They launched an investigation immediately.
Ryan was arrested two days later for attempted murder and insurance fraud. Linda was arrested as an accomplice.
While they were dealing with the police, I filed a civil lawsuit and took back the house, the remaining savings, and everything else they had taken from me.
But the final blow came during Ryan’s bail hearing.
I walked into the courtroom alive and well.
The moment Ryan saw me, his face went completely white. He started screaming that it was impossible, that I was supposed to be dead.
Linda took one look at me and fainted.
I stood there calmly and looked straight at both of them.
“You tried to kill me and my baby,” I said clearly. “Now you’re going to spend the rest of your lives paying for it.”
Ryan was denied bail.
Linda lost everything — her reputation, her money, and her freedom.
And I walked out of that courtroom knowing that justice had finally been served.
They thought they had killed me.

They were wrong.
I was the one who killed their lives instead.
