Chapter 8: The Desperate Moves
Ryan and Linda didn’t go down quietly.
While waiting for trial, Ryan’s lawyer tried every trick in the book. They claimed the recording I had was fake. They said I had staged my own disappearance to get revenge. They even tried to argue that I had fallen down the stairs by accident and was now lying for money.
None of it worked.
The evidence against them was too strong. The recording of them talking about pushing me was clear. The hospital records showed the extent of my injuries. And my sudden reappearance after being declared dead made their insurance fraud obvious.
Linda tried a different tactic.
She started telling anyone who would listen that I was mentally unstable. She claimed I had faked everything because I wanted attention. She even tried to contact some of my old friends to turn them against me.
It didn’t work.
Most people who knew me from before were shocked but supportive when they found out I was alive. Many of them reached out to me after hearing the news. Some even testified on my behalf during the preliminary hearings.
Ryan became more desperate as time went on.
He sent me letters from jail. At first, they were full of apologies and begging. Later, they turned angry and threatening.
One letter said:
“You think you’ve won? You’re going to regret coming back. I should have finished the job when I had the chance.”
