Chapter 14: The Final Chapter
Six months after the settlement, Adrian’s criminal case concluded.
He accepted a plea deal. In exchange for pleading guilty to coercion and workplace harassment, he received a reduced sentence of two years of probation, community service, and a permanent ban from holding any executive position in companies receiving certain types of federal contracts.
It wasn’t prison time, but it was enough to ensure he would never regain the power and influence he once had.
On the day the plea deal was finalized, I received one last message from him. This time, it wasn’t angry or desperate. It was simply resigned.
Adrian: It’s over. You won.
I didn’t reply.
Because it had never been about winning or losing.
It had been about justice.
That evening, I met Rosa for coffee. She had given birth to a healthy baby girl two months earlier. She showed me pictures on her phone, her face glowing with pride.
“She’s perfect,” I said, smiling at the photos.
Rosa nodded.
“I named her Elena,” she said. “After my grandmother. I want her to grow up knowing she’s loved and protected.”
I felt my eyes sting.
“She will be,” I said. “Because she has you.”
