Chapter 2: The Confession

Victoria stood motionless in the nursery, the foaming milk spreading across the polished floor like a living accusation.
Elena’s voice cracked. “Mom… tell me it’s not true.”
Victoria’s hands trembled at her sides. For the first time in her life, the powerful matriarch of the family had no words, no mask, no control.
The maid — Anna — remained on the floor, still pointing at the spill.
“I saw her,” Anna whispered. “She poured something from a small vial into the milk when she thought no one was watching. I’ve worked here long enough to know when something is wrong.”
Elena looked at her mother, tears streaming down her face. “Why? He’s your grandson. My son. Why would you do this?”
Victoria’s lips moved, but no sound came out at first. When she finally spoke, her voice was barely a whisper.
“Because he is not a Sterling.”
Elena froze.
Victoria continued, her eyes filled with a mix of guilt and cold justification. “His father is not who you think he is. I ran the DNA test months ago. Leo carries blood from a man who betrayed this family. He is a threat to our legacy. If he lives, everything we built will be tainted.”
Elena staggered back as if she had been slapped again.
“You tried to kill my son… because of blood?”
Victoria’s voice grew stronger, the old steel returning. “I protected this family for decades. I will not let one child destroy generations of power.”
Anna stood up slowly, still shaking. “Ma’am… the police are already on their way. I called them before I ran in.”
Victoria’s face turned ashen.
Elena looked at her mother with a mixture of horror and pity. “You raised me. You taught me to be strong. And this is what you became?”
Victoria reached out a trembling hand. “Elena… please. We can still fix this. The family comes first.”
Elena stepped back, holding Leo tighter.
“The family you speak of died the moment you tried to poison my son.”

The nursery, once a place of love and warmth, now felt like a tomb.
And the monster who had raised Elena was finally exposed.
